AKRATOS (or Acratus) was the god or spirit of drinking unmixed wine. The Greeks usually drank their wine mixed with water, so Akratos was probably associated with festive excess. Akratos was one of the attendants of the god Dionysos. His concern over wine fraud is similar with our goal in health tourism.

Health tourism is old. Even the ancient Greeks went to Epidauria (because of the health-giving god Asklepios) a. Even the ancient Romans went to thermal baths for the beneficial effects of warm water for the joints. Nowadays, it is believed that medical tourism already accounts for 5 per cent of the global tourism market.
